Let’s link arms on a mission to cultivate a more inclusive world for (and with) our children.

ABOUT MIGHTY KIND

Our Mission & Vision

Mighty Kind is dedicated to focusing on kindness and compassion as a foundation for anti-bias learning and conversations while aiming to provide platforms for diverse voices and underrepresented perspectives.

We aim to create opportunities for learners of all ages and stages to respectfully engage with authentic representations of modern cultures and historically marginalized communities, focus on their own personal betterment in character development and unpacking biases, and engage in actionable, impactful opportunities to empower each community member to tap into their natural capacity to love, take action, and learn, while finding joy in the journey.

True kindness is rooted in a deep understanding that people, no matter how different, are important and deserving of our respect and allyship. When we expand our understanding of the world around us, we can build bridges of empathy and break down barriers like fear and prejudice.

We envision a near-future in which we are all working together toward making the world a better place, one act of informed and intentional kindness at a time.

Our Guiding Principles

EDUCATE

Listening, learning, and unlearning is at the root of everything we do here.

We aim to do so by amplifying voices, messages, stories, and honest histories and providing opportunities for self-reflection, improved critical thinking, and safe conversation.

CELEBRATE

We will not shy away from the pain and suffering that is endured by our fellow human beings— historically or currently.

We will seek out opportunities to honor joy, achievement, and growth along the way.

EMPOWER

This is not a place for “shelf help” where learners come to consume and compartmentalize.

Action and advocacy are paramount to cultivating true community and being part of the solutions that will bring about change in the world.

REDISTRIBUTE

Not all content will be free as we believe in building a financially sustainable model to further invest in research and resource development.

Money earned from product sales, sponsorships, and partnerships are reinvested in partnerships with authentic experts from historically marginalized communities.

Our Charitable Giving Goals

We believe that the true power of any financial success can be measured by the amount of positive social impact it can make. Each quarter we select at least one non-profit organization to donate 10% of our profits. If you have a charitable organization you’d like for us to consider, please reach out via the Contact Page.

STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE

The Legacy Mighty Kind Magazine

Discontinued in 2021, each issue of the 64-page publication was full of illustrated stories, fun activities and actionable volunteer opportunities to empower kids to tap into their natural capacity to love and learn while having fun. The high-quality publication was geared toward children and the grown-ups who mentor them.

Content within it’s pages was designed to be evergreen and ever-relevant, so don’t hesitate to pick up a copy— there is still lots to learn alongside your child.

A massive THANK YOU to our incredible volunteer production staff, our commissioned writers, illustrators, artist, designers, and everyone who supported the Mighty Kind Magazine dream.

  • 1. Issue Theme: Each issue includes feature articles and activities that revolve around an interesting shared human experience such as food, nature, or greetings.

    2. Destination: Next we take a deeper look into the traditions and way of life in a specific country, region, or culture. The first issue highlighted Mexico and included maps, facts, recipes, notes from a traveling kid-reporter, a penpal, and more.

    3. The Big Idea: We then guide children through a personal growth concept to help them develop a positive sense of self and a strong sense of moral character. Topics allow children to develop introspection through stories and activities like journal prompts. Some big ideas have been diversity, integrity, and sharing.

    4. Kindness In Action: Finally, we encourage children to take action through service and volunteer work. Issue 1 included a guide for making DIY greeting cards and included a list of organizations that collect cards on behalf of those in need of some cheer. In this section, we also highlight the good work of kids around the globe showing our readers that you don't have to be big to be mighty.

    5. The Grown-Up Section: Here adults who are looking for additional guidance and resources will find essays, expert advice, and other exercises that allow for further anti-bias learning as well as scaffolded conversations. We want parents, teachers, caregivers, and other mentors to feel confident in their journey of anti-bias learning while growing alongside the children engaging with this magazine.

  • Mighty Kind is intended for kids who want to want to change their world. We develop content for kids ages 5-12, but this magazine is absolutely meant to be enjoyed together with parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins, and so forth regardless of age! We also specifically include a grown-up section as a resource for parents, caregivers, leaders, educators and others who contribute to the development of children at this stage.

  • Our process has evolved since we first started this magazine and we hope it continues to do so. We aim to be nimble in our research and development process so that as we learn better, we do better!

-We develop a content framework that prioritizes space for diverse own-voice perspectives and stories

-We consult with an ABAR (anti-bias/anti-racist) education expert who help us incorporate higher-level learning practices

-We seek out representative members of each culture we feature to ensure due diligence and respectful representation

-We collaborate with historian scholars to present decolonized, honest historic context

-We team up with professionals like behavioral physiologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, early childhood education specialists, and the like to develop adult resources

-We enlist sensitivity readers to beta read each issue for feedback before going to print

  • Mighty Kind is now in several elementary school and public libraries across the United States and has been used as a social studies, anti-bias, and social-emotional curriculum supplement in both traditional classrooms and homeschool settings alike. It is not sufficient as a stand alone curriculum, but is a wonderful starting point for meaningful discussions and putting learning into practice. We do ask that individual purchases of Mighty Kind be only for personal use in a homeschool setting and only as a read-aloud in a traditional classroom setting. For licensing information permitting use for classrooms, co-ops, pods, and other groups, please reach out through our Contact Page.

  • Designed with keepsake-durability in mind, physical copies of Mighty Kind are printed on high-quality material and free of distracting advertisements. This bookshelf-worthy magazine is built to be read and enjoyed now and for years to come.
